Creative England Launches Hardware, Software and Service Grants

Further support has been announced for burgeoning games companies based in the West Midlands.

The GamesLab Hardware, Software and Service Grants allow companies in the region to claim back 50% of the cost of hardware, software or consultancy purchases in the process of developing the game they’re currently working on.

Whether it’s a new suite of computers, game development software or taking on freelancers the grants offer a simple way of reclaiming costs.

“The West Midlands has an incredible amount of games studios in the area, and we’re keen to support this impressive regional growth," said Jaspal Sohal, Head of Games and Digital Media at Creative England. "By offering a no-strings-attached grant to the companies we’re hoping it’ll ease the financial pressure for these SME’s and assist them in taking their game to market.”

The total cost of qualifying purchases must total £2,000 to £10,000 – meaning that Creative England will reimburse companies £1,000 to £5,000. The companies can only claim for purchases made after approval from Creative England.

SMEs can also apply for grant support for more than one purchase, although all items purchased must be for the development of the same game project.
