Details of the full cast for the Creative England funded ‘She Who Brings Gifts’ have been officially announced with production set to start on May 17 in the West Midlands.
Anamaria Marinca (‘Fury’), Fisayo Akinade (‘Cucumber’/’Banana’), Anthony Welsh (‘Starred Up’) and Dominique Tipper (‘Vampire Academy’) have joined a cast that includes Gemma Arterton, Paddy Considine and Glenn Close, with Brit Newcomer Sennia Nanua taking the leading role.
British director Colm McCarthy (‘Peaky Blinders’, ‘Sherlock') will helm the feature, with additional funding coming from the BFI Film Fund and Altitude Films. The film will be distributed in the UK by Warner Bros. Pictures.
Based on M.R Carey's post-apocalyptic sci-fi novel 'The Girl With All The Gifts', the story takes place a generation after the world as ended and follows four adults and a young girl with countless questions about the mysterious wider world. Together, this unlikely group find themselves in a situation where they will decide the fate of humanity.
“We are truly excited about ‘She Who Brings Gifts’ - It is a pure genre film with added heart and brain,” said Richard Holmes, Senior Film Executive at Creative England. “It has a fantastic West Midlands presence with a hugely respected international cast and a spectacular use of locations. We’re very proud to support it!”
Director of the BFI Film Fund Ben Roberts said, “We’re thrilled that ‘Gifts’ is out of the box. Completely original, Mike Carey has adapted his own book brilliantly and found an inspired collaborator in Colm - who we’ve admired for some time.”
