For the second installment of our I Love Filming In… series we head to Dorset, the rustic setting that forms the backdrop for director Thomas Vinterberg's upcoming adaptation of Thomas Hardy's 1874 novel 'Far From The Madding Crowd'.
Representatives for the film reached out to our Production Services Team early on, enquiring about the logistics of shooting in Dorset and whether or not it would be practical. We were able to assist with finding some of the film's key locations, including Weatherbury Farm, Boldwood Estate and Casterbridge. We were also key in helping the team secure access to iconic properties such as Mapperton House and providing integral support throughout the production's shoot.
'Far From The Madding Crowd' follows the complicated love life of Bathsheba Everdene (Mulligan). After inheriting a farm in Weatherbury, she's faced with choosing between three very different men; the humble Gabriel Oak (Matthias Shoenaerts), respectable William Boldwood (Michael Sheen) and the glamorous Sergeant Troy (Tom Sturridge). While Bathsheba may seem spoilt for choice, she soon comes to realise that her playful allure and coy nature can have some very far-reaching consequences.
Once the film had set up shop in Dorset, our Production Services Team were on hand throughout the shoot to provide location suggestions and support. We arranged introductions to local authorities via our Film Friendly Partnerships and worked with Dorset County Council Highways to secure the contracts that would secure a smooth shoot. This seamless collaboration enabled ' Far From The Madding Crowd' to perfectly showcase Dorset's immaculate stately homes and rolling rural landscapes with ease. For the remaining two shorts in this series, we'll take you behind the scenes of the Alan Rickman helmed, Kate Winslet starring A Little Chaos in Buckinghamshire and visit series three of the BBC's Last Tango In Halifax in Manchester.
Our Production Services team tackle over 1,000 enquiries a year from filmmakers and producers looking to take their projects outside of London. They help find location doubles and bespoke spots to suit tailored briefs, whilst also providing key information on production crew and facilities. Our services are free to use, so if you're looking interested in filming in Dorset, filming in Cornwall or filming in Somerset, don't hesitate to get in touch: firstname.lastname@example.org.
'Far From The Madding Crowd' is scheduled for UK release on May 1st 2015.
