Advance empowers creative businesses to realise their full growth potential and take their business to the next level.

Advance is a new programme delivered in partnership with Wakefield District Council providing bespoke business support to creative SMEs, individuals and freelancers based in Wakefield and the wider region. This programme is funded by The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s Cultural Development Fund grant, which is administered by Arts Council England.

The programme will offer three levels of support to creative businesses and professionals:

  • Mentoring
  • Online Content
  • Events and Workshops

Mentoring

Advance is offering ambitious creative businesses and individuals the opportunity to work with industry leading mentors who will provide tailored support, access to networks and industry expertise.

If you’re looking to take your business to the next level, Advance is here to help. Whether you’re looking to gain industry contacts, take a new product to market or find investment, we will partner you with sector specialists to help you achieve your goal.

Over six months you will receive 10 hours of mentoring designed around your business plans and aspirations. This will be delivered both in a 1:1 setting and in group sessions with your fellow mentees, giving you the chance to learn from your peers, explore opportunities for collaboration and build an intimate network of support.

Digital Agencies

10 mentees will be working with a range of industry experts from leading digital organisations, focusing on business planning and operations, managing creative teams, pitching to clients, diversifying income and monetising IP. Learn more and apply here. 

Games

We are partnering with Ukie to recruit a cohort of ten early stage game developer mentees and provide support and advice from industry experts (including Wakefield based Team17) on some of the key skills needed to run a successful games business.

Immersive Entertainment

10 mentees interested in learning more about immersive entertainment will be working with leading VR/AR developers Cooperative Innovations to explore new technologies for creating innovative immersive experiences.

Online content

We’ll be kicking off our online support with a webinar series focused on accessing finance. Over seven modules, we’ll be giving a comprehensive overview of the post-COVID creative investment landscape; looking at grants and crowdfunding all the way to business angels and venture capital, by the end of this interactive series you’ll have all the tools and knowledge to assess the right finance option for you and your business.

Events and Workshops

Throughout the programme we will be coordinating opportunities for networking and group learning through workshops and events. We will also be supporting the local creative community by partnering with established festivals, conferences and events in the region.
