Advance empowers creatives to realise their full potential and take their work to the next level.
Advance is a new support programme for creative and cultural practitioners, freelancers, organisations and SMEs based in Wakefield and the wider Yorkshire Humber region.
Brought to you by Creative England, Advance is delivered in partnership with Wakefield Council and funded by The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport’s Cultural Development Fund grant, which is administered by Arts Council England.
Are you looking to forge your own career in the creative industries?
Do you need help with starting, growing or scaling a creative business/organisation?
Do you live, work or study in Wakefield or the wider Yorkshire Humber region?
If so, we want to hear from you!
Here is your AAAA pass to Ask Us Anything About Advance!
Curious to know more about the Advance programme? Got a question and never find time to reach out? Not sure if you are eligible for Advance and just want to speak to someone? Or maybe you want to know more about how mentoring can help you? This invitation is for you!
Pop into our new monthly Ask Us Anything session where Creative England staff will host an open space for discussion on the first Wednesday of every month.
With a philosophy of ‘there are no stupid questions’, this is a chance to find out more about the programme, what type of businesses are already participating, or discuss the specifics to see if it’s right for you. We will sometimes have a special guest, feature a current participant or mentor, or showcase a success story. We want to smash down any barriers that may be getting in the way of you applying for Advance and do everything we can to help you benefit from this opportunity and grow your creative business. Even if you just want to see our faces, say hello or to arrange a private chat for another day, we’d love for you to join us. We even want to hear your feedback too, so if you feel like this isn’t for you and want to tell us why, or how we can make you feel more included, then that’s all the more reason to come along!
Simply click on the Zoom link below between 1pm and 3pm on the last Wednesday of every month to join us for a chat. Bring a cuppa and your lunch if you like and we hope to see you soon!

We are offering bespoke advice and guidance from creative industry mentors who have been there and done it. As an Advance participant, you will receive 10 hours of fully funded mentoring from an industry leader to help you realise your creative ambitions. A few examples of what an Advance mentor could you help you with:
You ultimately have the decision on who supports you. You might already have someone in mind. If so, you can let us know on your application form and subject to Creative England’s recruitment process, they can be added to our pool of mentors.
If you don’t have a mentor in mind, just tell us what kind of expertise you’re looking for and we will suggest a range of options for you to choose from.
Creative England has over 150 industry consultants on our books, so we’re bound to find somebody that’s right for you.
Applicants must either be a registered sole trader/freelancer, SME, CIC or Charity based in Wakefield or the wider Yorkshire Humber region.
In some cases, we’re also able to work with pre-starts but it’s best to submit an enquiry first before taking the time to complete an application form. The Advance team will then be in touch to find out more about the support you’re looking for.
We can support mentees from any creative industry subsector including but not limited to:
Film & TV
Museums and Galleries
We’re always on the lookout for industry experts to join our books. If you’re interested in becoming a mentor on the Advance programme, you can submit an enquiry here.
